I’m so Broke-Can I still go out in DC to have a good time?

Why yes, you absolutely can, and I’m going to tell you exactly how I’d do it. Before you judge me, I’m not broke, I just like having an exact amount in my bank account before I can start spending money on drinks, ubers and whatever else. It’s a general rule I have for myself, as I’m sure many of you do the same. Warning- these tips are only for those nights out where you really do have little to no money. It’s really not much of an every weekend kind of thing.

So all your friends are going out, but you have $3 to your name. Here’s how you’re going to spend your money wisely. First- don’t drink and bring your car. A DUI will cost you so much more than an uber in the long run. If you want to save a little extra, bring your car but make sure you can park somewhere over night. I use Spot Hero, it’s a parking app and it’s so easy and works great. Get your car in the morning, it’s not worth it. Next, get uber gold. It’s free and it gives you so many benefits! If you use uber as much as I do, you’ll be able to get all of those benefits like cheaper rides, flexible cancelations, priority support and more. Lastly, as far as rides go, get as many people as you can in that uber! The more people there are, the cheaper the price.

Now that you’ve figured out your ride situation, it’s time to talk about drinks. Personally, I have a backpack and it’s big enough to where I can carry around more than a few mini shot bottles. 99 Bananas is my go-to. They’re a dollar each and trust me when I say you will only need a few of them to have a good time. Ask the bartender for pineapple screwdriver or a seltzer. They go good with either! If that doesn’t sound good to you, there’s so many mini shot bottles you can hide in your pockets or purse. You’ll only need to buy one or two drinks at the bar. (Again, this is a temporary kind of thing, you can’t keep hiding shot bottles, someone will notice eventually.)

Now, let’s talk entry. If you have connections, try asking a promoter if they can get you on guestlist, but if not, find promo codes or just use Groupon. Shocking, right? Yes, Groupon has deals for a lot of venues in DC. As for clubs, look at Eventbright, and see if they have anything going on for that night. Pick a night where they usually have deals. It’s really not that hard, you just have to do some research.

Lastly, food. I know you probably want McDonalds after a long night out, but you know you’ll just throw it up or get an upset stomach, so let me tell you what I think is the best thing to get that’ll still be open after 12. Get yourself a breakfast taquito at 711 and some organic cold-pressed juice. It’ll probably be around $3 altogether, it’s healthier and even cheaper. There’s so many 711s in DC, and the food will most likely be fresh if you’re out after midnight.

Your bank account will thank you. -X
